Self-determination in dealing with assets in a digital world.

Use the law. Ensure self-determination.

About the law firm

Digital assets operate in an area of tension between rapid technological development, increasing regulation and a high level of individual responsibility. In practice, there is often a lack of uniform standards and reliable processes. Platform processes are not always transparent, and official assessment standards are applied inconsistently in some cases.

Against this background, a purely abstract legal consideration is not sufficient. A viable legal assessment requires that technical processes and economic procedures are recorded as part of the facts of the case and classified within the applicable legal framework.

Our work is based on the professional insight that legal classification in the area of digital assets is only reliable if it is based on a sound understanding of the underlying technical processes. This understanding requires continuous professional up-to-dateness and proximity to the practical development of the market.

Our team is therefore actively involved in the national and international specialist community, regularly participates in industry events and conferences, monitors technical developments and continuously analyzes new market and platform structures. Digital asset systems emerge and change in open networks - this dynamic flows directly into our legal assessment.

Our activity is geared towards a careful and reliable legal review. We see law as an instrument for safeguarding economic decisions. Accordingly, we support the handling of digital assets both in an advisory capacity and in contentious proceedings, including representation in and out of court.

Yann L. Ackermann

Freedom and personal responsibility are central principles of my professional activities. They shape my understanding that law in a digital world is not only about regulation, but should also enable independent action.

The law firm for digital assets stands for legal certainty as the basis for genuine self-determination. For me, its foundation was the logical continuation of my personal values and professional orientation. It is based on the conviction that the digital asset market creates new legal risks which are not fully absorbed by existing market structures or current regulation.

With the establishment of decentralized value transfer systems, responsibility is shifting to the individual. This results in new requirements for legal support. In addition to precise legal knowledge, an understanding of technical and commercial processes is essential. For me, legal advice begins with understanding these connections and classification within the legal framework.

My legal practice focuses on legal support for extensive matters in the field of digital assets, from legal structuring and regulatory classification to the Representation in court proceedings.

Main areas of activity

  • Legal advice on Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies
Classification of legal issues in connection with the acquisition, custody, use and sale of digital assets.
  • Representation in the event of account and account blocking
Enforcement of claims against crypto exchanges and digital financial service providers in the event of blocking, termination or restriction of user accounts.
  • Tax law issues in connection with crypto assets
Tax classification of crypto transactions and support with issues relating to the trading, use and documentation of digital assets. I also represent clients in dealings with the tax authorities and before the tax courts, including the Federal Fiscal Court.

Career

I began my legal training by studying law at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. At the same time, I was a scholarship holder of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom.

After graduating with honors in the first state examination in law, I completed my legal clerkship and the second state examination in law in the district of the Higher Regional Court of Frankfurt am Main. During this time, I worked for several years in the legal department of a leading European company in the field of IT and digitalization.

After being admitted to the bar by the Frankfurt am Main Bar Association, I worked for ECOVIS Grieger Mallison Steuerberater-Rechtsanwälte Sozietät. In this role, I was the main lawyer responsible for corporate litigation for the northern half of ECOVIS Germany, was involved in the trademark protection of the globally active ECOVIS Group and regularly dealt with tax law issues.

I have been a certified advisor for crypto assets and taxes since 2025.

Independence and personal responsibility have always defined both my personal and professional path and continue to guide my work.

My understanding of crypto assets is rooted in practical experience and continues to shape my perspective on their underlying technical and economic interrelations.

After successfully completing my first state examination in law at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, I completed my specialization in tax law, which I have continuously expanded since then.

To further qualify and deepen my expertise, in 2025 I obtained certification as a consultant for tax law and crypto assets acquired. The focus of my work is on the tax classification of crypto assets and the analysis of current developments in case law and administrative practice.

By combining legal methodology with a basic technical understanding of digital asset systems, I contribute to the preliminary review of tax-relevant matters as well as in the development of legally comprehensible solutions within the client work.

Crypto assets are challenging existing economic and regulatory structures. This is not just about technological innovation, but about a changed system logic. The example of Bitcoin shows how a peer-to-peer-based network without a central authority can fundamentally reorganize the way property, value and trust are handled.

My aim is to support the dynamic change in the digital asset sphere with legal precision and to communicate complex relationships in a comprehensible way.
